CHALLENGE
Designing a completely new fly fishing rod and reel company’s brand identity is a unique challenge. One must balance the need for capturing the essence of the sport’s deep connection to nature, adventure, craftsmanship and innovation, while at the same time ensuring a unique visual that sets the brand apart from a field of competitors. At the same time, it was important to convey the family legacy behind the project, ensuring that the personal connection in visual language matched the decades of family involvement in the lifestyle even before entering the product arena.

RESULTS
Working hand-in-hand with the family owners of Douglas and industry professionals, the new Douglas Outdoors identity was created to convey a cohesive visual narrative that resonates across multiple product lines and mediums. Having an inherent “heraldry” feel while at the same time conveying the energy and technological presence of today’s fly fishing industry was key…the logo needed to look great on a rod, a reel, a baseball cap and more. A true harmony of tradition and modernity.

The logo’s functional aesthetic allows its display in multiple formats, extending from actual markup on rods and reels to use in print pieces, the web etc. The palette of a strong, earthy green and its compliments conveys both nature and an energetic product range.

Finally, the web presence acts as a digital extension of the brand, with a user-friendly design that offers an immersive experience, combining rich imagery, storytelling, and product showcases. The website not only educates but also engages customers, allowing them to feel a personal connection to the brand’s ethos and values. Through these integrated touch points, we ensured that the new identity was not just seen, but felt across all channels.
